½ cup sugar

New Mexico or ancho chile powder, or other pure chile powder such as chipolte chile powder for those with a hotter palate

2 tablespoons unsweetened lemonade mix
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
2 teaspoons finely ground black pepper
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or less to taste


Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and stir to mix. Transfer to a covered jar. Store in a cool dry place. The rub will keep for several months.
